writing a song

No one knows what goes on exactly
in a songwriter's head
As a painter fills a canvass
with splashes of colors creating a masterpiece
Words gush forth from a songwriter's pen
to speak to me and you
of his pain and joys and fears

If a poet needs the pain,
what does a songwriter need
to create such words that
coupled with a mixture of melody
can make one cry or laugh or sing?
